| A Museum's Best Friend |
|
This piece tool place on Spring 1997 and it was an excuse to talk about the problems in the art community. The idea arose because we were upset at an interview given by Mr. José Pintado, President of the World Federation of Friends of Museums whose heading in the newspaper was “ARTIST ARE TURNED INTO MUSEUM FRIENDS” in which he spoke about the donation made but several of us (who were all about to participate in the exhibition Manifiesta II in X-Teresa) in benefit of this association. We felt it was ironic that we were suddenly turned into “museum friends”, seeing that, particularly in our country, artists have been their main benefactor. The piece consisted on a 2 x 3 meter whirling panel which on one side showed a cute dog house with the following text:
The other side of the panel had a text explaining the project, an amplified copy of the interview with Mr. Pintado and the invitation to a conference where we read a letter explaining this situation and demanding author’s and rental fees. The letter was signed by over 70 artist and critics and was published in 10 newspapers.
